Crude Protein (CP) is the primary measure of feed protein content. For high-producing dairy cows, target 16–18% CP in total mixed ration (TMR). Lactating does require 14–16% CP, and growing pigs need 18–22% depending on stage.

Metabolisable Energy (ME) is the key energy measure in feed. Dairy cows need 2.6–3.0 Mcal ME/kg DM; pigs require 3.0–3.3 Mcal ME/kg for optimal growth. Energy deficiency causes weight loss in lactating animals.

Maintain a Ca:P ratio of 1.5:1 to 2:1 in all ruminant diets. Imbalance causes milk fever, poor skeletal development in calves and kids, and reduced reproductive performance.

Feed a DCAD (Dietary Cation-Anion Difference) controlled diet 3 weeks before calving. Maintain BCS (Body Condition Score) at 3.0–3.5 at calving.

Increase energy density (add bypass fat), provide cool water, use fans/shade, and supplement Vit E + Selenium for immune support during heat stress periods.

Aflatoxin contamination in grain-based feed is a serious risk in tropical climates. Store feed in dry, cool, ventilated conditions. Discard any mouldy or discoloured feed immediately.
